Workshops Offered through the Continuing Education Department of the Ottawa Carleton District School Board include:

Social Media & Online Marketing

Learn how to set up and work with Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, and Pinterest to connect with your customers; as well as how to implement a social media and online marketing strategy for get results. You may bring your own laptop to practice and apply lessons during class. [Check dates.]

The 5-Hour Website

The 5-hour Website: Create a website or Blog using WordPress *New This 4-hour course will show you how to create a professional-looking WordPress.com website and /or blog. Topics will include the domain names, pages and posts, contact forms, mailing lists, keywords, comments, and resources to continue your learning after the session. Come in as a beginner; go home feeling like a pro! [Check dates.]

Writing, Authoring and the New Publishing

Hone your writing. Produce your articles, blog posts, book or e-books. Share and promote your work with the world. This 8-week writers group includes warm-ups, participant readings with discussion and feedback, and instruction on writing tools, editing, topics and tiles, ISBNs, creating e-books, print-on-demand services, and more. [This course is offered in May and June. Dates are added to the calendar early in the New Year.]

Your Digital Last Will and Testament

What do you want to have happen to your online accounts (like websites, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.) after you are gone? Will your loved ones know your wishes? Will they know how to access your accounts? Make sure your online legacy is preserved or handled as you intend. Make it as easy as possible for those who will be responsible for them. [Check dates.]

Google Plus

Learn advanced features of Google Apps including keyword and search tools, authorship and rank, webmaster tools, Google Places, and Google+ for better business and publishing results. A brief overview of some foundational apps will be covered (mail, calendar, drive). [Check dates.]

Bringing it All Together

Upon request, participants who have participated in Jan’s courses, “The 5-Hour Website” and “An Introduction to Social Media & Online Marketing,” are invited to join this session to review teachings, ask questions, get feedback on their projects, and refresh their goals. Various tools (e.g. Hootsuite, IFTTT) will be introduced to help “bring it all together.” It’s bound to be a lively, interesting, and inspiring session. Both courses are prerequisites.
